Summary This position is located in the Specialty Care Services of the Vancouver VA Medical Center in Vancouver Washington - serving as an Intermediate Care Technician providing administrative and clinical support to staff and patients. Qualifications Basic Requirement: All applicants must meet the following requirement; the series includes support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technical experience is required. English Language Proficiency: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English. Applicants must be proficient in basic written and spoken English. Grade Specific Requirements (GS‑07): Specialized experience: one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS‑06 level, including patient screening, vital signs, wound care, specimen preparation, medication administration, and documentation. Education: one full year of graduate education (18 semester hours) or an internship directly related to the role, with transcripts submitted. Preferred Experience: (a) 2 years direct patient care; (b) 1 year outpatient clinical; (c) 6 months wound care; (d) 6 months dermatology. Volunteer experience is credited. For more information on qualification standards, please visit the United States Office of Personnel Management’s website at Duties Perform observation‑based screening and collect patient information in collaboration with licensed personnel. Complete clinical reminders and templates, such as the outpatient intake form and follow‑up treatment protocols, following agency protocols. Assist in behavioral/psychiatric situations, including crisis intervention and management of aggressive or suicidal patients. Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment and promote dignity under supervision. Administer medications via specified routes (intramuscular, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, intranasal, rectal suppositories, local anesthetics, nebulized medication, subcutaneous, intradermal), complying with national and local policies and disposal guidelines. Perform clinical responsibilities including vital signs, point‑of‑care tests (e.g., I‑STAT glucometer), equipment and instrument setup, wound care (bandaging, dressing changes, wound measurements), specimen collection and preparation, and assist with patient exams and screenings. Conduct mental health screens, crisis intervention, interviews, and observation of behavioral patients. Educate patients within scope, post‑procedural care, sutures, and follow‑up care. Document all actions, interventions, and procedures in the electronic health record (procedure notes, progress notes, screenings, photo documentation). Work schedule: intermittent shifts between Monday and Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm PST (not a virtual position).
