Job Description

Caf Manager / Head Barista

The Caf Manager / Head Barista oversees the daily operations of the Basilica Caf, ensuring a welcoming environment, excellent customer service, and alignment with the mission of the Basilica.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and functions, as outlined herein, are intended to be representative of the type of tasks performed within this classification. They are not listed in any order of importance.   • Open and close the caf and reconcile daily receipts.
  • Interview and select prospective employees, vetting for barista, hospitality, and caf service skills.
  • Schedule and staff each shift appropriately to ensure coverage and service quality.
  • Order supplies and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
  • Oversee preparation of food and beverage orders, including catering or event orders for the Basilica conference space.
  • Perform all caf functions as needed, including but not limited to:
    • Greet customers warmly upon entry.
    • Understand all menu items, ingredients, and recipes.
    • Prepare and serve beverages and food according to recipes and standards.
    • Receive and process customer payments.
    • Maintain cleanliness of bar, tables, and service areas.
    • Ensure adequate stock of clean cups, mugs, plates, and supplies.
    • Operate brewing and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
    • Comply with health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
    • Communicate customer feedback to improve service and offerings.

Education and/or Experience

  • Previous work experience as a Barista or Server, preferably in a coffee shop or quick-service environment.
  • Hands-on experience with brewing and caf equipment.
  • Knowledge of sanitation and safety regulations.
  • Basic math and point-of-sale skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; enjoys engaging with people.

Other Skills and Abilities

The ability to communicate, listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing. Strong command of both written and spoken English language.

Working Conditions

The working hours of this position are not limited to an 8-hour day. This person will need to be available in the evening and weekends, as needed. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Tasks involve bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, and standing for long periods of time. Ability to carry 35lb.
