Job Description

Equipment Operator Non CDL Holder

The Equipment Operator Non CDL Holder performs a set of skilled duties in the training for the operation of a tandem dump truck for the purpose of delivering materials to jobsites and for snow removal during winter operations. Upon obtaining either a Class A or B CDL the employee is promoted to an Equipment Operator II. Works under varied levels of supervision.

Duties and Responsibilities

Training:

  • Book/video training
  • Behind the wheel training to include:
    • Assist in the deliver materials to and from jobsites.
    • Ensure that assigned truck is checked on a "walk around" inspection as well as checking the levels of lubricants.
    • Operate a wheel loader to load materials into assigned vehicle.
    • Assist in the servicing and cleaning of the assigned vehicle.
    • Assist in the operation a plow/and tandem truck during winter events.
  • Must obtain Class B CDL certification during 6-month introductory period or within 4 attempts.
Typical Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; 1- 6-months of related experience generally preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required; Must obtain Class B CDL within 6-month introductory period or within 4 attempts.

Knowledge:

  • Operating procedures for all equipment assigned.
  • Light automotive/construction equipment operation.

Skills:

  • Excellent customer service skills with the ability to interact in a positive and professional manner to develop and maintain strong working relationships with co-workers, management, and general public.
  • Time management.

Abilities:

  • Ability to operate equipment safely and skillfully, according to traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ability to safely use mechanical hand tools and operate automotive and other heavy motorized equipment.
  • Ability to work safely in high danger zones.
  • Ability read, comprehend, and apply instruction manuals and drawings and to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors when inclement weather conditions exist.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools, materials and equipment used in construction and maintenance activities.

    • Lifting/Moving – Occasionally; lifting/moving a maximum weight of 20-50 pounds. Any weight over 50 pounds requires two persons.
